Fern Gully
Back again with another jewelry piece that I made! This piece is titled “Fern Gully” and pays homage to one of my favorite artists, Alexander Calder, and my favorite childhood movie, Fern Gully.
I was maybe 12 when I first saw an exhibition of Calder’s work and was immediately smitten! I created a small body of jewelry work when I was in high school and still often revisit this style of working in my jewelry studio. This piece, titled "Fern Gully", is a nod to my favorite childhood movie. It fostered an early sense of environmental awareness. The brass ferns are strung on silk chiffon ribbon hand-dyed with black knight scabiosa (by the one and only Carol Reed). Amongst the unfurling ferns, six emeralds spark imagination and curiosity--glistening like little sporophytes! This piece is currently for sale. Message for more information or find out more here.
